In loving memory of Derek Chandler Thomas, a young man who chose God and family above all. A young man who was pure of heart, simple and kind. He departed from this world all too soon on December 13th, 2023. Derek was a man who always searched for truth and finally resolved truth being found only in the word of God.
Derek Thomas was a scholar effortlessly throughout his life. He did two years of college at the University of Southern Mississippi. He also served six years in the National Guard as a private 1st class radioman. Any time Derek put his mind to do something, he did it and was very intentional about it.
In this time of remembrance, we reflect on the profound loss of Derek and the many lives he has touched with his burning passion for Christ. He has now reunited with his maternal grandparents – Lee & Alfredia James and his paternal grandparents- Ella Louise Harris & Jethro Thomas Sr.
Derek’s legacy will endure through the memories of those who were fortunate to know him, and his dedications to his extended and immediate family will never be forgotten.
Though his departure has left a void in the hearts of those who hold him dear, Derek’s legacy will live on through the love, memories, and thoughts he has left with us.
Left to cherish those memories are his loving and devoted wife Brea Lang, who stood by his side until the very end, offering not only unwavering support but unconditional love that allowed him to grow; his two children: Logan “LoLo” Millender (9yrs) and Zakir “Zy” Thomas (3yrs); his brother Tauric Reed; his sister Ashlye Anderson; and his supportive parents -Kenneth “Kenny” & Sharon Thomas.
Derek is also cherished by a host of dedicated aunts, beautiful nieces, witty cousins, loyal friends, and a handsome nephew, all of whom were deeply touched by his presence during his time on this Earth.
His life, though regrettably brief, left an unrelenting impact on those who had the privilege to know him but left an impactful hallmark on those who got the honor to see him unfold into the man he had become. As he noted on January 27th, 2022, “The Day I met God.”
