John Campbell Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Henry Campbell, Jr. aged 69 of Mobile, AL After a lengthy illness, he passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025 at The Retreat Hospice by Saad.

Born on June 28, 1956, in Mobile, AL to John Henry Campbell Sr and Alma Johnson Campbell. Affectionately known as "Junior" he was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. During his last days he stated he wanted Jesus to be with him. He was assured that Jesus was most certainly with him. Junior was known for his quiet and gentle spirit and friendly personality. He attended historic Central High School where he was proud to be a drummer in the "Wildcats" marching band. After Central was closed to initiate school integration, he was briefly bused across town to Davidson High School. However, due to the rock throwing and hostile opposition the bused students were receiving, he transferred to and graduated from Cedar Grove Academy in Prichard, AL in 1973. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and also worked for a number of years at Scott Paper company and ServiceMaster Services. He will be remembered for his daily walks around the neighborhood, sitting on the front porch and interacting with neighbors, his love for music and his love of gardening. He particularly enjoyed caring for his pecan trees.

Junior is survived by his devoted sister, Annie Mary Campbell Fleming; one devoted nephew, Martin N Nicholas II (Brenda) of Daphne, AL; one devoted niece, Natalie Marie Bullen (Dave) of Huntsville, AL; two great nephews, Martin N Nicholas Ill and Jase Nicholas; a host of cousins, three devoted, Stanley Montgomery of Mobile, AL, Dorothy Campbell Stallworth of Prichard, AL and Alice Causey of Silas, AL
