Levy Nelson, a native of Leaksville, Mississippi and a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama.
He was born to Katherine Hughes and Chester Nelson, and was a 1970 graduate of
Toulminville High School. He was a former welder at Alabama Dry Dock & Shipbuilding.
He retired as a bus driver from the Mobile County Public School System after over 20 years
of service.
He was a loving man who was very passionate about his family. He was known through the
neighborhood for entertaining, hosting, and his favorite pastime of playing dominoes. His
always-open door was a hub for his family, friends, and the neighborhood.
Levy departed this life on January 4, 2022, at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Katherine and Clyde Mitchell; his sister, Shirley Pears; his brother, Bishop C.E.
Hughes; and devoted friend, Mother Juanita Gormon.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Levy (Scherie) Mitchell; four grandchildren,
Levy Mitchell, Davonte, Jalen, and Alexia Dees, all of Mobile, Alabama; two brothers,
Apostle W.F. (Dr. James Etta) Hughes of Grandprarie, Texas and Sherman Crawford of
Mobile, Alabama; a devoted sister-in-law, Pastor Patricia Hughes of Mobile, Alabama; a
host of nephews and nieces, eight devoted, Clarence, Fabian, Elder Joshua (Shiloh), Israel
Hughes, Verjilya Hughes, Cory Pears, Pastor Charlie (Frances) Jones and Apostle C.M.
(Natasha) Mitchell; bonus daughter, Lyttice Gormon; and a host of loving and devoted
friends, including Mr. Darnell (Grace) Taylor, Darryl Watson, Mr. Jack, Judy Roach, and Lorraine Harris.
