Overseer Madge Gertrude Barnes was born January 1, 1922 in Morengo County Alabama to Rafe and Gertrude Edwards and later became a resident of Mobile, Alabama. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. She was 100 years old.
Overseer Barnes was the Overseer and Founder of Paradise Park Apostolic Church of God where she served for a number of years before falling into ill health.
She was proceeded into death by our father Oby Lee Hope and step-father Charlie Barnes, sisters, Ethel Agee, Creole Lee, Pinkie Poe, Mattie Ree Lott, Alice Phillips, niece Bessie Foney; brothers, Hasten Edwards, Prince Edwards, Leroy Edwards, Alfred Edwards, and Roland Edwards; daughter, Priscilla Wheeler, son, Wayne Hope, grandson, Phillip Allen, granddaughter, Teri McDonald.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and memories a sister Willa Matthews, Cleveland, Ohio, son, Martin Hope, Houston, Texas, daughters, Mary Smith, Houston, Texas, Levernal Allen, Pastor Ora (Hollis) Sylvester, Prophetess Rhonda (Pastor Bernard) Bryant, Evangelist Linda (Pastor Dwight) McDonald, all of Mobile, Alabama, 19 grandchildren of whom 1 was a devoted caregiver along with her children, Gregory Wheeler, 26 great grandchildren, along with a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
