Robert James Ward, aka Redd, age 77, of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026.

Born on May 8, 1948, in Faunsdale, Alabama, Robert lived majority of his life with family in Mobile, Alabama.  A life marked by humor, love, and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a man with a very big heart, known for always protecting those he loved and standing firmly in his care for others.

Robert was an Army veteran, a role he carried with pride. To those who knew him, he will always be remembered for his infectious laugh, his deep love of music, and his natural instinct to help others without hesitation. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

Robert was the proud father of three children:  Robert Britt, Alvessa Williams and Demonica Britt as well as nine grandchildren:  Syaisha Alexander, Shadaylah Byrd, Robert Alexander, Adaisah Johnson, Samir Williams, Ajayla Britt, Javian Rodriguez, Malani Terry and Monique Terry and four great grandchildren:  Hayden Jones, Ace Alexander, Amari Morency and Harlow Jones.  

Robert is also remembered by his siblings: Brenda K. Walker, Ivy Ida Gamble, Richard Ward, Hezikiah Ward and preceded in death by his wife, Anita Ward, his siblings Warren Ward, Jimmy Ward, Bennie Griggs Sr. and parents Pearline Griggs Ward and Bennie Ward.

Above all, Robert was a man of God.  He carried around his bible and would always quote scriptures.  Robert was extremely devoted to studying and teaching the word and would always tell anyone he met about the goodness of God.   His faith was strong and meant the world to him.  He valued family most above anything.  His love was steady, loyal, and enduring, something felt deeply by everyone fortunate enough to be part of his life.

A memorial to celebrate the life of Robert James Ward will be held at a later date in Mobile, Alabama.  The family appreciates the love, prayers, and support during this time of remembrance.
