Teacher Saundra Ransom-Howze Obituary

Teacher Saundra Cherita Ransom - Howze, a native of Prichard, Alabama; and longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama departed this life on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 surrounded by family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Deacon Benjamin Ransom, Sr., and Mother Earlean McCall Ransom; her beloved husband of twenty-nine years, Pastor Carlis James Howze, Sr; and best friend, Sister Marsha Taylor.

Saundra loved to learn and achieved academic success as a graduate of Mattie T. Blount (class of 1977), Alabama A&M University, and Bishop State Community College. After earning her Bachelors of Science in Education, she taught briefly; but realized her true calling was in nursing. That calling would lead to over a twenty-five year career as a nurse at USA Women’s  & Children’s Hospital. After she served faithfully at USA, she went back to the Mobile County Public School System to work as a school nurse until her son’s health failed. Being the devoted, loving, mother she was, she retired to care for him until her own health began to fail.

Throughout this community, Saundra was known for beautiful smile, gentle spirit, and strong faith. She believed in the standard of Holiness and exemplified a Proverbs 31 Woman. Her love for God, and His people, was evident during her service as First Lady of the Church of God Pentecostal - Brewton Alabama until her husband’s death. Continuing to work in ministry, she united with the Church of God that Jesus Built under the leadership of Bishop George Moore, Sr. She served faithfully as the Women’s Supervisor until her health began to decline.

Now that her earthly work has come to an end, she leaves behind many who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her devoted children, Tammy, Carlis Jr. (Catherine), and Stephen Howze; her grand-daughter she helped rear and who was dear to her heart, Raycheal Howze; grand-daughters, Carli, Chriselle, and Chloe Howze, all of Fairburn, Ga.; siblings, Pastor Glenda Faye Davis and Victoria Ransom, and Elder Benjamin Ransom, Jr. (whom she was extreme close with), all of Mobile, AL; sister in laws, Bernadette Ransom and Minnie Pearl Howze; brother in law, Joseph Dixon; one uncle, William (Latrice) McCall of Oklahoma; Church Mother/Godmother, Mother Maggie Moore; a dear Sister in Christ, Sheena Moffett; special niece, Mercedes “Peachy Head;” special co-worker, Annie Marsette; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, co-workers, ministry co-laborers, and friends.
